This year we should see some clear direction from IRD on how it sees its business transformation project impacting on taxpayers to make their life easier and improve the use of technology in the tax system.
The appointment of the Hon Michael Woodhouse as the Minister of Revenue at this critical time also provides him with the opportunity to stamp his mark on the business transformation project. The first half of this year will hopefully see the Minister speak in Queenstown at the International Fiscal Association conference in February where we would expect to get a flavour of what change he has propensity for. In May he will be involved in his first budget as Minister of Revenue and this should provide an opportunity to signal how he wants to sees the future tax system look.
