Michael is a tax partner but also has the Managing Partner role at Polson Higgs. He has been involved in providing specialist tax advice to corporates and Small to Medium sized Enterprise (SME), together with advice to accountants and lawyers since 1992. He has also been involved in authoring and presenting a large number of tax courses as well as being a regular speaker at conferences.

Michael joined the CAANZ National Tax Advisory Group in January 2006, has served on the Otago Branch of CAANZ, and was chair in 2006/2007. His contributions to the accounting profession were recognised in 2009 where he was made Fellow of the College of Chartered Accountants.

He became a partner at Polson Higgs in 2000. He was also on the board of the Otago Southland Employers Association in 2013-2021 and was a member of the transition board of Business South in 2020/2021, bringing together the operations of the Otago Southland Employers Association and the Otago Chamber of Commerce. He was also on the Board of Trustees for Maori Hill Primary School in 2019-2021.

His interests, when time allows, include; trail bike riding (with his boys), boating, hunting, mountain biking, skiing and travel.
