Canterbury Quake - Helpful information on Insurances

These comments are of a general nature and ultimately clients should consult with their insurer, broker or other relevant party.

What does EQC Cover?

EQC insures homes for replacement value up to $100,000 plus GST and contents up to $20,000 plus GST. Any claims above these amounts will be dealt with by the individual’s private insurer.

Christchurch Earthquake - Updated Information for Clients
 (13th September 2010)

We trust you are well after the recent earthquake.

Our first thoughts are with you and your families and we hope that everybody has come through this traumatic event as best as possible.

The Polson Higgs infrastructure has come through well and we are fully operational from our Christchurch based offices.  This includes the lift which is a great relief to many of us! There are however many stories to be told by our people!

Canterbury Earthquake - Insurance Claims
(7th September 2010)

Some important information for clients who may have suffered property damage in the Canterbury Earthquake.

Insurance Claims – Domestic

For anyone who has damage to property or contents then they should firstly register a claim with the Earthquake Commission on 0800 652 333 or online at www.eqc.govt.nz

A residence is covered for the first $100,000 (plus GST) by the EQ portion of a domestic insurance policy. If the damage is assessed to be greater than $100,000 (plus GST) the balance will be covered by the insurer. The EQC will also cover the first $20,000 (plus GST) of contents and the insurer the balance thereafter.

Christchurch Earthquake - Updated Notice for Christchurch Staff (7th September 2010)

Good morning
 
I thought it would be useful to provide you with an update on the current situation in Christchurch office.
 
Our building, up until very recently, has been within the exclusion zone.  We were yesterday able to get access to the building for business owners.  While we have a green sticker from Civil Defence, which means the building is able to be used, we do not have sign off from our engineers that the building is fully operational yet.
 
Our landlord is currently working through this process and he has advised that tenants will not be fully operational until this has been completed.  As you can imagine, engineers are in somewhat short supply at present.  Ideally the engineer who built our building will be the person to review the situation.  This may take a couple of days to occur.  We have made the decision that we will not be opening the office until we have this clearance.
