Budget Comments (29th May, 2009)
The budget was very much as expected, and therefore a bit of a non event (albeit an important non event!)
Firstly I guess it didn't contain too many surprises and therefore is unlikely to unsettle people / the markets. It was also fairly conservative and fiscally responsible which is what we expected.
Debt levels were clearly a key focus of the budget with many of the decisions reflecting the Government's desire not to unnecessarily increase Government debt and to over time bring this back under control. As one of my staff members said; the Government's budget was similar to his personal budget, looking to cut unnecessary expenditure and reduce debt. A prudent approach in the current environment.
Polson Higgs Building Changes (11th May, 2009)
The Dunedin Site
Since the end of 2008, the buildings Polson Higgs occupies in Dunedin have been undergoing quite a transformation. Earlier last year, our landlord decided to renovate and add some additional office space. Polson Higgs agreed to occupy the extra office space allowing us to reorganise our working areas for existing staff.
Partner Steve Dunbar, who is overseeing the project, said that when the work is finished in July, the business will have an extra 260 square metres of space, which will be used for offices, a shower and toilets. As well, a new lift is being installed, and the reception and administration areas are being renovated.
