Polson Higgs
Our History
Polson Higgs was founded in Dunedin on 1 January 1997, when Ray Polson and Stephen Higgs acquired the Dunedin business from Price Waterhouse, when it decided to refocus on the larger markets. They were joined in partnership by Graham Crombie, Steve Dunbar, Phil Broughton and Tim Dunn. Michael Turner was promoted to partner in 2000, and Henry van Dyk joined the partnership on 1 April 2007.
On 1 April 2000, Polson Higgs expanded into Christchurch, bringing Dave Cope and Robert Purchas (formerly of BDO) into the partnership. Geoff Bolderston and Frank Burgess left PricewaterhouseCoopers to become partners in Christchurch at the same time.
On 1 April 2004, Phillip Roth was promoted to partner in Christchurch. Mike Rondel and Frazer Weir have since also been promoted to partners. Noel Walton moved to Polson Higgs from Ernst Young, wanting to be with a firm more focused on South Island clients.
The formation of an independent partnership was based on a desire to provide higher levels of service to the local region. To that end, we now offer a fully integrated range of services. Recognised experts within the firm enable our clients to access advice and support for all of their business needs.
After more than ten years, the partnership has grown significantly. To date, there have been three retirements, most notably that of Ray Polson. He, while enjoying more family time, is still actively involved with the firm.
Polson Higgs today has 13 partners and approximately 120 staff, specialising in all areas of business advice. We value the contribution our people make to our clients, and the communities in which they work and live.
