Polson Higgs Supporting Shelter Box Deliveries to Haiti

In the aftermath of the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti, the staff at Polson Higgs have arranged for a “bake-a-thon”, with staff baking goodies and others buying the offerings, with all proceeds going towards one of Rotary’s ShelterBoxes.

Hundreds of ShelterBoxes have already been delivered by the UK SheltertBox Response Team, with more to be dispatched over the next few days. Some have been used to build an emergency field hospital at the Port au Prince airport, while the majority will be used as emergency housing for some of the hundreds of thousands of displaced and homeless.

A ShelterBox is a tough, green plastic box containing a 10-person tent and ancillary equipment designed to enable a family of up to 10 people to survive for at least six months.  Contents depend upon local conditions and what is most needed. ShelterBox works directly with local organisations in countries where disasters have occurred, in partnership with other aid agencies and through the international Rotary network.

Lea Johnson, from Polson Higgs Wealth Management, has been involved with the Mosgiel Rotary Club for four years. Mosgiel Rotary is the key contact for ShelterBoxes in New Zealand, and Lea has been involved with this project.

In recognition of her efforts with ShelterBox, Lea was awarded the Polson Higgs Community Service Award at the end of 2009.

We very much hope that through the above efforts, Polson Higgs can make a positive contribution to some of those affected by the disaster in Haiti.
