Cancer Society Relay for Life 2009

Every second year the Otago/Southland Cancer Society holds the Relay for Life in Dunedin; a fundraising event to help battle cancer, celebrate those who have survived, support those who have this disease, and remember those that it has claimed.

Once again, in February this year, the Polson Higgs staff entered a team to support this great cause.

On Saturday 21 February the Polson Higgs Relay for Life team completed a weather shortened version of the relay, walking around the Caledonian running track and Logan Park from 12pm to 12am Sunday.

Though each member was only rostered on to walk half an hour at a time, most walked longer shifts to ensure no-one was out on the track alone.

The weather was atrocious but the atmosphere was electric, and a great deal of fun was had by all participants.

For the 12 months previously, Polson Higgs staff had been having weekly bake sales, an art auction, cheese roll sales, a Christmas raffle, mufti days and concluded their fundraising with a Quiz Night.   $3,000 was raised to go to this extremely worthy cause.

As we all contemplate how cancer affects our lives, either personally or within our family, friends or work colleagues, it is with gratitude that we acknowledge and thank the Polson Higgs Relay Team for their tremendous effort.
