Raising The Profile
|
The 2010 Canterbury North Otago Farm Managers of the Year Hamish and Natalie Davidson (pictured) say a major value of the competition was challenging themselves to carry out a total review of their business in a short period of time. "It also increases our profile in the industry and is a great networking opportunity to meet like-minded people." The couple is equity farm managing a 440ha property milking 1500 cows at Fairton near Ashburton. "It's an exciting industry," Natalie says. "The world needs to be fed and we produce both commodity and valueadded products. The industry has attracted some negative publicity lately but we operate on the basis of running a sustainable business." |

The Davidsons impressed the judges with their approach to HR and financial planning on their way to the title. "It was an amazing feeling to win. You don't get many opportunities where people let you know you are doing a good job." Natalie says Frazer Weir is an invaluable sounding board for their business. "Our goal is to keep building on opportunities to provide a passive income stream and we have a set of figures that we're working to. If you include the likes of Frazer in what you are doing he can add value and help you make the right decisions." | |
