Mercer HR & Remuneration Forum - November 2009
Essential knowledge for informed HR and remuneration decisions

HR & Remuneration Forum
Programme November 2009

Session 1: Remuneration and Market Issues: Trends and forecasts
Uncertain economic times bring challenges as well as opportunities.  No matter the financial climate, it’s important to have a clear understanding of economic trends and forecasts to ensure remuneration decisions informed by the very latest market intelligence.  This session will present current market information on remuneration trends and reward practices providing the context for the development of HR and remuneration strategies for 2010 and beyond.

Session 2: Employee Engagement: Taking the Workforce Pulse
This session will discuss the importance of keeping tabs on employee motivation and engagement during times of change.  It looks at tools organisations can use to establish the pulse of their workforce and to identify crucial action items.

Session 3: Striving or Thriving: Benefits on a Shoestring
Organisations across the spectrum are being challenged to reduce the cost of employment while maintaining or enhancing employee engagement. In part, we believe this can be achieved by developing and implementing innovative “benefits on a shoestring”.  In this session attendees will be encouraged to think creatively about benefits that don’t break the bank.

Session 4: Securing Retirement Incomes? Retiring Retirement
The ageing population is putting increasing strain on retirement funding around the world. In New Zealand the current retirement savings policy, including NZ Super and KiwiSaver, will become increasingly unsustainable and inadequate if changes are not made.  In July 2009 Mercer launched a significant thought leadership report entitled “Securing Retirement Incomes – Time to Act”.  One of the options put forward is to “retire retirement”. While this sounds quite extreme? this discussion will explore some of the history, philosophy and challenges behind the concept of retirement, look at the issues around retiring retirement and then briefly discuss the other options now being discussed in many countries.
